Like a roller coaster

What a beautiful day! We have been enjoying such nice sunny days with light winds at our backs, calm seas and the assistance of the Gulf Stream to launch us east. We have both of our headsails out scooping up as much wind as they can to power us along. It doesn’t get any better than this!

But that soon changed. The winds suddenly changed direction and started coming out of the north. They also picked up a bit of speed. It was time to take down the gennaker and put up the main sail. It was the first time this trip we have used it. The seas were still calm so we were now on a nice beam reach, still with the help of the current, making very good time.

As the day progressed, the winds moved our line to the northeast and pick up momentum, which in turn caused to seas to become a bit more active. Nothing terrible, just a little more sporty.

It’s now Tuesday, and the wind and seas have just continued to increase in magnitude.

You that really cool water ride at Disneyland? Big Bear Mountain, I think. Anyway, it’s awesome..you sit in this little boat that looks like a log and you up this hill, and the. You start going faster and faster around corners and up and down and then plunged into a pool. It’s loads of fun. Well, this isn’t that. If this was a ride at Disneyland, no one would ride it, and those crazy enough to do so would be puking.

The winds are supposed to be easing up by tonight. I sure hope our weather guru is right, because this sucks. Trying to just walk around on the boat is like…..
