It's that time.....the boat needs to be hauled out of the water for some bottom paint, routine maintenance and investigation into some new issues. We have found a boat yard here in Grenada where we are able to haul out and get our work done. Since it's off season, it's not as busy and a bit cheaper. We will be at Clarke's Court Boatyard and Marina. We have decided that we will live on the boat while work is being done, not just for security, but also to keep apprised of the work and any issues. Watching the boat come out of the water was pretty interesting.
Mike followed the lift its eventual parking spot for the duration of our stay.
Driftwood came to the boat the next day and began work of getting the old paint off the bottom, so fresh paint can be applied.
Mike took this opportunity to service the sail drives.
Finally, after a week of prep, the copper coat goes on.
It has to dry for several days and then they will sand it to get the copper flakes to the surface. So for now, Driftwood will assist us with addressing some other issues. Mike had come across an area at the foundation of the boat that was cracking along a joint where the length of the salon and the port hull meet. Apparently, according to facebook experts, it's not a structural issue, so should be an easy fix of fiberglassing over it.
One of the main guys at Driftwood came over to look at. He looked at a few other areas on the boat and discovered the same issue on the starboard side as well. To really get a good look, our LP locker had to be disassembled.
One of the things he wanted to have done, is get our standing rigging tension checked because if it is too tight it can cause this problem. Fortunately, our rigging was where it should be. Or maybe that's unfortunate. Would've been an easy fix.
While continuing his inspection, he discovered that Lagoon has a horrible design flaw. Where the mast is attached to the salon, it sits on a compression post. Well they mounted it on plywood, which is now giving way, causing bending in the boat where it shouldn't bend, causing the cracks along the salon/hull joint. Our boat is literally coming apart at the seams. While I always appreciate the facebook experts š, they weren't exactly on point this time.
So, what initially was going to be a 2 week bottom paint, wash and wax is turning into a something much more. Down the rabbit hole we go. We will have to remove the main sail, and have the boom and mast removed from the boat before it can be fixed. I'm beginning to wonder if we will ever be leaving Grenada. Usually Sundays are for day drinking. I think we will make an exception today š¹
Mike is all over it though. He has contacted Just Catamarans in Ft Lauderdale to assist us in contacting Lagoon the see if this is under warranty or recall. š¤
Maybe they can fix it here or maybe we will have to go to a factory authorized company to have it repaired. Stay tuned as we progress through this journey. It's gonna be a wild ride!
Well, the good news is this was all discovered on dry dock vs out at sea! Life is an adventure and you are living proof! The good news is your in shorts and flip-flops and it's gorgeous. Just jump in that water and wash away any stresses!
May the adventure continue!

Weather itās a boat or a home we still have required maintenance if we want it to last. Glad you two are enjoying your retirement on the water.šā“ļø
